Hannover colliery is a fascinating place of interest in the Ruhr area and an important industrial monument. Interesting permanent and special exhibitions describe how the landscape has changed since the start of industrialisation and the development of large-scale industry and subsequent housing development and how social tension resulted from this.

 
Hannover colliery was constructed as early as 1857 and was used for coal production until its decommissioning in 1973. Of the representative twin shaft system, only a Malakow Tower and the machine building have been preserved as industrial monuments. As a particular highlight the children's mine "Knirps colliery" brings a smile to children's faces. Here, the little ones can emerge in the typical miner's uniform and re-enact with gravel all the processes of a proper mine. As a result Hannover colliery is a perfect excursion destination for families in the Ruhr area.
