45th International Christmas Market Essen

Glittering lights, magical stalls and a scent of cinnamon in the air – for the 44rd time the International Christmas Market Essen from 23 November until 23 December 2017 will intensify the anticipation of the festival of giving. With its 250 atmospherically designed market stalls it is one of the most beautiful Christmas markets in North Rhine-Westphalia. The traders come from 20 different international countries as well as from other regions of Germany. The feature of this Christmas market that is unique in Germany are the illuminated motifs of the Essen Light Weeks.

Journey into the Middle Ages

For the already eleventh time the atmospherical medieval market at the Flachsmarkt will take visitors on a journey through time. All sorts of medieval things, from home-made soaps and incense materials over gemstones and pottery to furs and candleholders can be found here. All sorts of delicacies from the castle kitchen can be enjoyed at the crackling fire, of course cooked according to medieval recipes.

Home-made candles

On the Kardinal-Hengsbach-Platz square, you can make something nice not only for yourself but also for others. You can make your own individual candles using wicks and big pots. Only the material is charged for.
