The Lippe and the Seseke are certainly not among the well-known rivers
in the radrevier.ruhr. But they are undoubtedly among the attractive river courses,
which create a special living environment for flora and fauna. By bike
These two river courses can be ideally cycled on this 47-kilometer-long route.
The starting location
This circular route starts at the train station in Lünen, which is a regional station well connected to the rail network. There is also a bike station on site where you can rent bikes if necessary.
start of the tour
From the train station in Lünen, the route first leads through the city center and then along the Lippe and its beautiful floodplain landscapes. After crossing the Lippe and, a little later, the Datteln-Hamm Canal, the route follows the important waterway from junction 26.
Bathing fun at Seepark Lünen
For a long time, the Preußenhafen was an important transshipment port for coal mined in the surrounding Preußen and Gneisenau mines. Today, the port is used more as a leisure port for amateur boaters.
The Horstmarer See, just behind the harbor basin, is located on the site of a former state garden show that took place in Lünen in 1996. Originally, the Preußen mine mined coal underground here. Today's Lünen Lake Park has become a popular local recreation area, which, with its lido, provides pleasant refreshment, especially on hot summer days. A possible detour here leads to the beautiful Schwansbell Castle with its beautiful park.
The Seseke
For the next few kilometers, the route follows the Seseke. For a long time, it was used as a sewer. However, a comprehensive renaturation program has given the Seseke a more natural stream again.
The Seseke was also given a cultural spotlight through the Capital of Culture project “Walking on Water”. Cyclists pass the “Now” sculpture or the “Pixel Tube” on the side of the road, for example.
The former Klöcknerbahn
At junction 1, the route meets the former Klöcknerbahn. The railway line, which has been converted into a cycle path, leads north to Marina Rünthe. The modern marina exudes a touch of jet-set flair. For a sporty excursion, you can cycle up to the Großes Holz slag heap.
Back to the starting point
The tour leads along the Datteln-Hamm Canal and later the Lippe back to the starting point in Lünen. Excursions to the Bergkamen Roman Park with a replica of a wood-earth wall and the Archaeological Trail and the Bergkamen City Museum with its Roman section may be interesting.
