For most people, a visit to a Christmas market with craft stands, Glühwein and roasted almonds is part of advent. The Christmas market in Bochum is a magnet for the public. It not only offers 200 lovingly decorated market stands and a medieval market, but with a Father Christmas who ‘takes to the air’, is a unique attraction in the Ruhr region.
Christmas stories from a lofty height
As the name suggests, something big is hidden behind the ‘Flying Father Christmas’. Falko Traber comes from a famous family of high wire artists and during the spectacular show hovers on his sledge pulled by reindeer 33 metres above Dr. Ruer-Platz. The distance is 125 metres and these are exciting minutes for the visitors. However, Father Christmas finds time to tell a Christmas story about Rudolph and Rebecca above the heads of the audience. Every year, children especially look forward to Father Christmas with whom they can say a poem or sing a song.
