From March 2018, the Ruhr region is one fascinating exhibition richer. ‘The mountain is calling’ from 16 March at the Gasometer Oberhausen. The impressive exhibition shows you the diversity of the extraordinary alpine world, its past and how it has changed. The fascination which the mountains of this world exercise on us humans is presented with photographs, films and exhibition pieces. A highlight of the ‘The mountain is calling’ exhibition is a plastic Matterhorn hanging upside down in the inner room of the Gasometer. The plastic is reflected on the floor so that it can be experienced from two directions. Using modern LED technology, the plastic is recorded so that you can marvel at it changing with the time of day and year.
Fascinating views of the alpine world
The exhibition which shall initially be on until 30 December 2018, enables you to participate in legendary first ascents and all the associated stories, drama and experiences. Mountains have always been places for religious worship, and this is also a large part of the show. With fascinating photos and film recordings, you are in the middle of the alpine world and on a small scale, you can understand what it means to climb mountains, namely by climbing the 117-metre-high roof of the Gasometer.
