Visit Kamp Abbey, then look back over a 890-year history and tradition: In 1123, it was established as a foundation of the Cologne Archbishop Friedrich I as the first Cistercian abbey on German soil and in a short time developed into the region’s religious centre. Afterwards, it was destroyed and rebuilt, Kamp Abbey’s story ended for the time being in 1802. Since the 1950s, the buildings have been used again, monks of the Carmelite Order moved into the abbey.
