Before, the area was surrounded by sand, gravel and coal. The marina which is open all year round today not only attracts boating enthusiasts, but also puts numerous visitors in a holiday mood with its Mediterranean atmosphere. A good view of the boats in the harbour is also possible from the wonderful promenade. The fact that there are no locks in a distance of over 100 kilometres between Hamm and Munster saves boating enthusiasts stress and means that weekend boat trips are unrestricted by time.
Relaxed water sport
As the Marina Rünthe lies on what is known as a branch canal, which finishes behind Hamm, there are not as many commercial boats as on other German federal waterways. Moreover, the Marina Rünthe is a perfect launch harbour for short and long tours. After just two hours, you reach the Dortmund Ems Canal and from here, via the Wesel Datteln Canal or the Rhine Herne Canal, the Rhine as a launch point to the famous areas of Mosel, Ems and Main, as well as the Netherlands. If you travel to the north on the Dortmund Ems Canal or if you turn onto the Midland Canal behind Munster, you will comfortably get to all of the North or East German boating areas.
