The Fürst Leopold Mine in Dorsten in Kreis Recklinghausen was in operation from 1913 to 2001, today on the site, you will find art and culture, literature, gastronomy and markets. Events also regularly take place there. Several artists have settled in the industrial monument and sometimes exhibit their art in galleries. In the former transformer house for example, you will find the ‘Galerie der Traumfänger’ in which the artist Norvert Then presents his art. The gallery is also an extraordinary venue where you can experience ExtraSchicht amongst other things.
Feasting with industrial heritage charm
Several restaurants in the former Fürst Leopold Mine buildings invite you to a feast. The ‘Schwarzes Gold’ vinyl cafe is not only an alternative cafe, but small concerts regularly take place here. In the chic ‘Dali’ you can enjoy tasty tapas and fine wine whilst you can indulge in vegan and vegetarian dishes in the modern ‘Cookie’s Veggies’. Italian cuisine is served in ‘Mezzomar’, garnished with a lot of industrial charm, and the ‘Factory’ offers traditional American food. After visiting a restaurant, we recommend you take a post-meal stroll around the site. A lot of the buildings, as well as the extraction equipment have survived and are sometimes nicely illuminated.
