The Hohenhof in Hagen is an art nouveau Gesamtkunstwerk and a building of European historic importance. Here you will find an exciting mix of architecture, art and history. The star architect and artist Henry van de Velde designed the villa for the Hagen art collector Karl Ernst Osthaus who later founded the famous Folkwang Museum in Essen. At the start of the twentieth century, he designed a Gesamtkunstwerk which is not only evident in the architecture of the building, but also is in harmony its contents. Furniture, curtains, wall decoration, soft furnishings and crockery were designed and made for the villa.
