Skating fun at the ZOLLVEREIN® ice rink

Skating enjoyment for all the family: On 8 December. In 2018, the ZOLLVEREIN® ice rink starts again. Where once coal was baked into coke at more than a thousand degrees Celsius, numerous visitors to the Zollverein UNESCO World Heritage Site today enjoy a 1,800-square-metre ice rink. Surrounded by imposing coke ovens, rust-coloured pipes and high chimneys, ice skaters of any age can now turn pirouettes until 7 January 2019 . According to the Marco Polo travel guide, the ice rink is ‘the most fascinating place to go ice skating in Germany’.

Even more fun on the ice!

At weekends and during the holidays, on a 180-square-metre area next to the ice rink, families and friends compete in curling competitions. The Zollverein Foundation also invites all ice skating and disco fans to anice discofrom 8.00pm to 12.00am!

Fun for young & old

On average, up to 30,000 ice skaters come per season because the ZOLLVEREIN® ice rink is not only unique – but great programme items for younger and older visitors make for a popular leisure attraction. After nightfall, the light installationby Jonathan Speirs and Mark Major bathes the Zollverein coke plant in red and blue light. A cosy winter village helps you gather your strength with hot drinks and snacks.
