With the Deutsche Oper am Rhein you are spoilt for choice

Oper am Rhein in the Ruhr? This sounds like a paradox, but you have read correctly. After all, the Rhine joins the Ruhr in Duisburg. Just as interconnected as the two rivers are the two venues of the Deutsche Oper am Rhein: The Duisburg Theatre and the Düsseldorf Opera House have been working together since 1956. As a result they have the largest opera ensemble in Germany and it results in an incredibly broad repertoire in the field of musical theatre, making you spoilt for choice: Baroque or

composers from the 18th and 19th centuries? Contemporary music or classically inspired productions? Opera, operetta, ballet, gala evening...? Proposed solution: Visit the largest music theatre in North Rhine-Westphalia as often as you can.

Let yourself be inspired by top class ballet in Duisburg

The Ballett am Rhein (Ballet by the Rhein) enjoys international renown: The specialist magazine "tanz" has awarded the ensemble with Swiss choreographer Martin Schläpfer the title "Company of the Year" several times in a row.  He stages new material as well as the great ballet classics in his very own and particularly innovative way. At the same time, Schläpfer allows young dancers to choreograph and rehearse their own pieces once a year. Every year you will encounter an interplay of historical choreographies, contemporary masterpieces and numerous world premieres by renowned and young artists in the programme of the Deutsche Oper am Rhein.

Opera and ballet for everyone at the Deutsche Oper am Rhein

There is quite a lot of space in the theatre in Duisburg: The auditorium can hold 1,117 people if it is occupied to the very last seat.  The two main stages in Duisburg and Düsseldorf as well as the two symphony orchestras, the Duisburg Philharmonic and the Düsseldorf Symphony Orchestra, employ 570 people from 35 different countries. Together, they ensure that the curtain is raised for you on about 300 evenings. This count does not even include guest soloists, directorial teams, the two municipal orchestras, extra and children's choirs, as well as extras. As you can see, the cooperation between the Duisburg Theatre and the Düsseldorf Opera is living proof that music and art connect people across all geographic, political and linguistic boundaries. Feel welcome in one of the most renowned operas in Europe!
