SmartGuide.Ruhr

Applicant:

Ruhr Tourism GmbH

Project description:

The project is being implemented by regional consensus, has positive effects on the entire Ruhr region, and is closely integrated with the North Rhine-Westphalia State Tourism Association. SmartGuide.Ruhr is a sustainable, digital project and, above all, is intended to provide significant support to the Ruhr tourism region in its digital transformation process. The goal is to create innovative information centers to enhance the quality of service and information at selected tourist-relevant hotspots, especially at the Ruhr Metropolis leisure and tourism concept hotspots. These centers provide brand-consistent and curated information and offer an interactive experience through the integration of new technologies. In contrast to conventional online platforms, the curated content displayed on the steles contributes positively to the authentic travel experience of the Ruhr Metropolis. Intelligent algorithms will analyze individual preferences and interests to recommend tailored offers, activities, tours, and events. These personalized plans will be accessible via a user-friendly application that will be continuously updated by an already established region-wide data management system (KI HUB NRW). In parallel, the development of a mobile application is planned to enable personalized visitor information and guidance not only via the information column but also via smartphones.

Urban.Trails – Excursions through the Ruhr area

applicant

Ruhr Tourismus GmbH (consortium leader), Ruhr Regional Association, Sauerland Mountain Association

Summary

Urban.Trails - 15 urban hiking trails of varying lengths in the Ruhr area with arrival and departure in an environmentally friendly network - are a new product at the interface of urbanity, authentic experience orientation and the trend topic of hiking. They help city tourism to become more sustainable: through low-emission mobility (ecological) and encounters on an equal footing (social). Through new demand, primarily from the expedition segment, the project strengthens the competitive position in the medium term. The product is therefore directly linked to the state tourism strategy and the TSK Ruhr.

In and between typical destination highlights and less tourist-frequented districts, visually stunning places of transformation are connected, and hiking tourism infrastructures and digital offers are developed and tested with contemporary forms of control and communication. The collaboration with the creative industries allows the development of new offers with a high potential for authenticity and immersion that generate economic added value directly on site.

The project is being implemented by the three partners RTG, RVR and SGV with a (supra)regional focus and is supported by all districts and municipalities in the Ruhr area. The involvement of TV NRW and two supra-regional trails means that the project will serve as a model for nationwide transferability.

In this project, RTG (Ruhr Tourismus GmbH) is primarily responsible for enabling relevant actors to create additional active tourism-relevant and authentic experience locations, infrastructures, product experiences and services. In addition, Ruhr Tourismus GmbH is responsible for digitizing the hiking offer as well as information and communication in accordance with the regional tourism data strategy. In addition, the overall project management of the cooperation project is carried out by RTG.
