Sorcerer's Apprentice, Oberhausen

Sorcerer's Apprentice

Directly on the banks of the Rhine-Herne Canal stands a highlight of modern art – the “Sorcerer's Apprentice“. This 35-meter-high, 10-ton electricity pylon sculpture was created by the Berlin artist collective Inges Idee and appears to be dancing on a wide meadow near Haus Ripshorst. Erected as part of the project “Emscherkunst 2013“, it combines the energy of technical infrastructure with artistic expression in a fascinating way. Its curved shape evokes the shape of a human figure and is reminiscent of the famous ghost from Goethe's “Sorcerer's Apprentice” who escapes the apprentice's control.
