The Westruper Heide near Haltern am See is one of the most beautiful landscapes in the Münsterland. In the approximately 90 hectare nature reserve, open heathland alternates with picturesque juniper bushes.
The remains of a once vast heathland not only provide a refuge for numerous animal and plant species, but also offer people a special kind of nature experience.
The Westrup Heath is a great destination at any time of year. It is particularly beautiful from July to September, when the heather and golden-yellow broom bushes bloom. With a bit of luck, Heidschnucken sheep will be grazing on the heathland as natural landscape caretakers.
Several signposted hiking trails, benches and information boards ensure a relaxed and interesting stay. Since 2010, a barrier-free path has made the heath accessible for people in wheelchairs and people with visual impairments.
