Equipped with mining helmet and lamp Accompanied by experienced miners, you can go on fascinating journeys of discovery through shafts and cross passages. Nowhere else in the Ruhr area can you see such a comprehensive collection of functioning machines such as coal crushers, belt conveyors and diesel cats in action.
The mine, an impressive example of industrial culture, stretches over a 1.200-meter-long network of tracks beneath the former slag heap of the Recklinghausen mine. Since 1975, it has served as a training and further education facility for the RAG workforce, where tests and demonstrations of new machines took place. Today, this impressive area is open to visitors, who receive an authentic insight into the history and technology of mining during two to three-hour tours.
