Museum Folkwang

Museum Folkwang

The Museum Folkwang in Essen is indeed one of the most important art museums in Germany. With its diverse collections, it covers a wide range of works of art from 19th century painting and sculpture to modern and contemporary art. Particularly noteworthy are the collections of German and French painting, important 20th century movements such as Cubism and Expressionism, as well as photographs and graphics. Another highlight of the museum is the impressive collection of the German Poster Museum, which, with over 350.000 posters, offers a unique insight into the history and art of poster design. The collection of works of old and non-European art also contributes to the diversity of the museum. The new building of the museum, designed by the renowned architect David Chipperfield, is also an architectural highlight that enriches the cultural offering of the city of Essen. Particularly noteworthy is the free admission to the museum's permanent collection as well as to the photography, poster and graphic collections. This generosity is made possible by the support of the Alfried Krupp von Bohlen und Halbach Foundation and makes art accessible to a broad audience. Regular temporary exhibitions and events ensure a dynamic and constantly new visitor experience.
