Germany's largest museum on the history of inland shipping
The permanent exhibition shows an impressive variety of maritime exhibits that depict the technical, economic and social history of German inland shipping. With the help of modern multimedia installations, visitors can immerse themselves in the fascinating history of shipping from the Stone Age to the present day. On three floors, visitors can expect many detailed models and numerous exhibits that invite them to explore and touch.
Immerse yourself in life and work on board
The focus of the exhibition is life and work on board. Visitors learn interesting facts about the everyday life of the sailors and their families on water and on land. Other areas include passenger shipping, the romanticism of the Rhine, handling techniques in the port, the history of the Duisburg-Ruhrort ports, the German canal system and river and lock construction. Would you like more shipping? Then a tour through one of the largest inland ports in the world is a good idea!
The German Inland Shipping Museum particularly appeals to the "expeditive milieu" that thinks outside the box in search of exciting and unknown experiences. Discover, experience and be amazed - a maritime journey of a special kind awaits visitors in Duisburg.
