From Informal Art to Concrete Art and Minimal Art to Fluxus and Conceptual Art, the development of the German avant-garde after the war can be experienced more vividly than anywhere else in the Ruhr region. A multimedia journey that opens up new perspectives for art connoisseurs and explorers alike.
Excellent painting
Painters such as Georg Baselitz, Jörg Immendorff, Anselm Kiefer, Markus Lüpertz, AR Penck, Sigmar Polke, Imi Knoebel and Gerhard Richter are comprehensively presented in unique groups of works. But photography with icons such as Bernd and Hilla Becher or Candida Höfer as well as sculpture are not neglected either - represented by greats such as Norbert Kricke and Hans Uhlmann.
These key works are exhibited on two floors in 15 spacious rooms, which cover a total of around 2.500 square meters and allow art to be experienced in all its dimensions.
Spectacular cultivation
Since September 2021, the spectacular extension of the MKM Museum has been fascinating, almost doubling the exhibition space with an additional 2.500 square meters. Historic silos are being converted into a breathtaking viewing platform and are accessible to the public for the first time. Here, the entire range of the Ströher collection is presented even more impressively in the newly designed space.
This expansion is made possible by the MKM Foundation, founded by Sylvia and Ulrich Ströher, and underlines the commitment to modern art, which in the MKM merges inseparably with modern architecture – an experience that remains unforgettable.
