Haltern Museum, LWL Roman Museum

LWL Roman Museum

The Romans left clear traces in Haltern am See and the surrounding area. In the time of Emperor Augustus, Haltern was considered an important military camp with numerous important facilities. In their search for traces, researchers were able to trace a main camp and the camp suburb and thus draw important conclusions about the Romans' way of life. The location on the Lippe and the proximity to Germania explain the important strategic location of the camp. It was not for nothing that Haltern played an important role in the famous Varus Battle.

The museum shows in a vivid and modern way how the Romans went about their daily lives and how world history was written at the same time. The exhibits invite you to participate and be amazed. The Roman construction site Aliso at the back of the museum is particularly worth a visit.
