An exploration tour of the picturesque Ruhr Valley reveals the history of the Ruhr region in an impressive way. The museum is an excellent destination for a bike tour along the Ruhr Valley Cycle Route. Visitors can delve deep into the world of knowledge about historical iron production and discover exciting temporary exhibitions.
The "Path of Iron" takes visitors high up: From Blast Furnace 3 (HO 3), the oldest of its kind, a breathtaking view of the Ruhr Valley opens up from a height of 55 meters. Whether on foot or comfortably in the glass elevator, the path brings the industrial past to life. The plant once employed around 10.000 people; the last blast furnace was shut down in 1987. Today it is the heart of the museum.
In the demonstration foundry, the past becomes tangible when demonstrations bring the historical atmosphere back to life and former employees tell their stories as contemporary witnesses. These insights allow an authentic experience of historical everyday working life.
