LWL Museum of Archaeology and Culture, Herne

In the LWL Museum of Archaeology and Culture, visitors are taken into the fascinating world of archaeology and history of Westphalia. An underground excavation landscape covers an impressive area of 3.000 square meters and presents more than 10.000 finds. These discoveries tell the eventful history of the region: from the hand axe to the moon landing, from the first settlement to the modern metropolis. An interactive and ultra-modern presentation makes it possible to experience the "underground" treasures of the Ruhr region up close.

The museum is not only a place of wonder, but also of participation. In the award-winning research laboratory, explorers of all ages can take on the role of scientists and search for historical artifacts themselves. This makes the visit an unforgettable adventure that holds surprising discoveries.

Another highlight is the outdoor excavation CAMP: a staged excavation landscape with a protected tent structure that is accessible all year round. Here, visitors experience archaeological field research first hand. They measure, document and uncover finds - a unique opportunity to literally understand science and make your own contribution to researching the past.
