Curiosity, a love of experimentation and an invitation to open exchange are the focus of the program of the Bochum Art Museum. Located on the edge of the city park and a stone's throw from Bochum city center, the Bochum Art Museum sees itself as a place with a workshop character where much is possible and many people are involved.
The character of the art museum is reflected in two interconnected buildings: In its spacious architecture, the museum invites visitors to experience modern and contemporary art — from exhibitions to performances — and to engage with it in a homely and open atmosphere.
The focus of the diverse collection, which consists of more than 8000 objects, is on a number of highlights from the early 20th century and, above all, on a very broad spectrum of European art after 1945, such as Zofia Kulik, Andy Warhol, Louise Nevelson and Tadeusz Kantor. The collection was recently enriched by a bequest with a large group of Fluxus works.
Regardless of a visit to the exhibition, the museum offers a meeting place for the people of the city with an open café, various event rooms, a small library and a roof terrace with a wide view of the city park.
