Kortländer Kiez, Bochum

Cortland neighborhood

Named after the iconic inn that Ferdinand Kortländer ran between 1879 and 1913, the Kortländer Kiez in the heart of Bochum has undergone a fascinating transformation. As a source of cultural diversity and a meeting place, this neighborhood offers an urban experience that is second to none.

The neighborhood is known for its lively pub culture, led by "Paddy's" - the oldest pub here, which has been exuding Irish flair since the 1970s. The offering is complemented by the "Trinkhalle", a hotspot of the Ruhrpott pub culture, which attracts visitors with over 100 regional and international beers as well as exciting workshops and lectures on the subject of beer. Bars such as the "OA" and cozy cafés, including the "KRTLND" café with freshly roasted coffee and the inviting Café Eden, complete the hospitable atmosphere.

But it's not just the gastronomy that attracts visitors. The variety of grocery stores reflects the multicultural soul of the neighborhood: from the "Coniglio" with Italian delicacies to the "Sahin Market", whose range of fresh fruit and vegetables leaves nothing to be desired, the neighborhood stands for culinary discoveries. And not to forget - the famous currywurst from the "Fleischerei Dönninghaus", which has delighted gourmet lovers for over 80 years.

The Kortland district is also a paradise for creative souls. In the Llemando photo studio, photo art meets unique style, while “Bahlo Records” captivates music lovers with an impressive selection of vinyl records and the creative record flea market “BIERinFLASCHEN + VINYLinSCHEIBEN”, which is organized in cooperation with the “Trinkhalle”.
