This is where the "Schalker Kreisel" (Schalker Kreisel) once whirled around Ernst Kuzorra and Fritz Szepan, and for many Schalke fans, it remains the club's home to this day: the Glückauf-Kampfbahn. Built by the club's own labor on a colliery site in the 1920s, it still symbolizes the "old Schalke," the miners' club. Inaugurated in 1928, the stadium hosted numerous legendary FC Schalke 04 matches. In the continually expanded sports facility, which only received its large grandstand in 1936 (further expanded in 1953), FC Schalke 04 enjoyed great success, winning six German championships and cup titles.
