Five major permanent exhibitions – experience culture up close
The Gustav Lübcke Museum in Hamm is impressive not only because of its impressive architecture, but also because of its extensive range of permanent exhibitions. Particularly noteworthy is the exhibition "Art of the 20th Century", which presents expressionist masterpieces by artists such as Wilhelm Morgner and Eberhard Viegener. German Informel also has its place here.
For those looking for something out of the ordinary, the Egyptian art collection is an absolute insider tip. An impressive collection of small sculptures, jewelry, amulets and mummy portraits, including two mummy coffins, is spread out over more than 500 square meters - and it is the most extensive of its kind in North Rhine-Westphalia.
Another highlight is the archaeology department, known for its discovery of a 13.000-year-old spearhead with traces of beeswax - the world's oldest evidence of its use as an adhesive. The offering is complemented by the city history department.
Virtual tourers will be delighted to have the opportunity to explore the museum digitally – the website offers 360° views of four of the five exhibitions.
An architectural masterpiece
Renovated in 2015, the museum building, designed by Jørgen Bo and Vilhelm Wohlert, impresses with a façade reminiscent of a grand piano – perfect for those who love stylish places.
Art and culture for all ages
Art education is a top priority here. The museum offers programs for all age groups - from kindergarten to retirement homes. Audio guides, including one by Jürgen Kluckert, as well as special multimedia guides for the visually impaired make the visit perfect for everyone. The museum educators also ensure that the museum is valued as an important place of learning.
