TV tower Florian Dortmund

It rises majestically above Dortmund's skyline: The Florian TV tower is not only the city's landmark, but also promises an unforgettable panoramic view of the Ruhr area. Once the tallest tower in Germany, it is a testament to the creativity and engineering skills of the late 1950s. As a child of the Federal Garden Show of 1959, the Florian owes its existence to a unique mixture of vision and pragmatism. Its construction, a masterpiece of steel and concrete, was supported by the German Federal Post Office and the Hoesch company, and made the tower a reality in just eleven months.

But what would a landmark be without a good story? The creative naming competition produced bizarre suggestions such as "Langer Lulatsch". The name Florian, a tribute to the patron saint of firefighters and gardeners, ultimately prevailed - a fitting tribute to the green heart of Dortmund.

At a lofty height of 138 meters, the first rotating restaurant of its kind in Germany once rotated, further proof of the tower's pioneering architecture. Today, the Florian not only attracts technology and architecture enthusiasts, but is also an integral part of the Westfalenpark, a hotspot for relaxation and events in the middle of a lively metropolis. Between lovingly designed gardens, playgrounds and an exciting range of activities for young explorers and adventurers, the park offers surprising experiences even in a modern environment.

Whether it's a concert, a cultural event or a colorful fireworks display, the Westfalenpark with its Florian TV tower is both a playground and a place of retreat for generations. The combination of culture, nature and history makes this place an indispensable experience for visitors looking for new perspectives and inspiring insights beyond the ordinary.
