Emil Schumacher Museum

Lust for art that moves: Emil Schumacher Museum

The Emil Schumacher Museum in Hagen offers a fascinating journey into the world of the outstanding post-war artist Emil Schumacher. Created through the dedication of his son Ulrich and the establishment of the Emil Schumacher Foundation, it presents a comprehensive collection of Schumacher's works, bridging the gap between past and present. The imposing exposed concrete building, designed by the firm Lindemann Architekten, embodies modernism and blends harmoniously with the neighboring Osthaus Museum Hagen.

Here you'll find around 500 works from various creative periods: from vibrant paintings and expressive gouaches to subtle prints and unique ceramics. The large, luminous paintings are just as impressive as the delicate bird drawings ("Uccelli") on slate, which are presented on the museum's three floors.

The studio, into which Schumacher's working environment was transferred, offers an insight into his artistic process. Between paint buckets and canvases, Schumacher's creative atmosphere comes to life and invites interaction and one's own creation. Temporary exhibitions complement the permanent collection and offer ever new perspectives on the connection to Schumacher's work.

The museum is perfect for groups and school classes and offers inspiring exhibitions whatever the weather - excellent for individual explorers as well as organized excursions. Thanks to its location in the Ruhr area and good public transport connections, it is an ideal destination for those who appreciate the adventure of art.
