Elbershallen – Leisure and Culture Factory

A hidden gem of industrial culture, the Elbershallen, invite you to explore. Once a proud weaving and spinning mill, they now shine as a versatile cultural center in the heart of the Ruhr region. The engine house, an architectural highlight from 1862–1864, captivates with its neo-Gothic design and provides a stage for the successful "Theater an der Volme," which has delighted audiences since 2011.

Special attention should be paid to the historic fireplace of the boiler house. Built in 1861, this impressive 85-meter chimney once towered into the sky as one of the tallest chimneys in Europe and is one of the oldest of its kind in Westphalia.

But the Elbershallen are not resting on their laurels. The redesign of the former Firebird to New Dyeing and the transformation of the former caretaker's hall into a state-of-the-art technology center are just two of the latest projects bringing a breath of fresh air to the site. Since August 2021, students have been preparing for tomorrow's careers in industry and trades here—a place of learning and innovation.

The Elbershallen are more than just an event venue; they are a versatile meeting place for families, groups, and individuals. Whatever the weather, the children's playground offers an outdoor highlight, while the convenient parking and bus stop are ideal for adventurous explorers.
