German Mining Museum, Bochum

Deutsches Bergbau-Museum Bochum

Down to earth in the German Mining Museum in Bochum:
Most of the witnesses to the Rhineland's industrial culture can now be visited mainly in the fresh air. The majority of coal mining took place far below the turf. So if you want to get a deeper insight into the region's history, you should definitely visit the German Mining Museum.

Here, in one of the last places in Germany, the motto is: go underground! The cable car simulator takes you 1.200 meters towards the earth's core. The adjusted temperature down there quickly makes you realize how hot things used to be for the miners.

A visit to the 71-meter-high conveyor frame provides the perfect way to cool down - including a spectacular panoramic view of Bochum. In addition to these ups and downs, there are also classic museum-like exhibits and lots of information about the bygone industrial age.

Good luck and have fun!
