Großes Holz slag heap, Bergkamen

Heap of large wood

One of the highest peaks in the Ruhr Mountains is the Großes Holz slag heap.

The well-connected hiking and cycling trails of the Rhenish mountain range are decorated with a brightly colored variety of plants. The favorite color of the slag heap: blue. When lavender and viper's bugloss bloom, they transform the fresh green of the slag heap into a bright mountain blue. And the blue is consistent throughout. The mine towers also shimmer blue and glow in brilliant blue light at night.

On top, another highlight awaits you.
The light sculpture Impuls adds a 148-meter-high crown to the 33-meter-high slag heap. The slag heap is easy to reach by public transport or by car and is also accessible all year round.

One of many possibilities for spoil heap hopping in the Ruhr metropolis.
