Zeche Ewald

Mine tour including climbing the headframe (adults)

The Ewald Colliery was once one of the most productive mines in Europe. Today, after more than 130 years of mining history, it is a symbol of modern and sustainable structural change. As an anchor point on the Industrial Heritage Route, it combines leisure and culture in a particularly exciting way. On a roughly one-hour walking tour of the Ewald future site, a journey between past and present, coal dust and hydrogen technology, you will learn details about the former use of the historic buildings and their subsequent uses.

Afterwards, we'll climb high up to the double-headed headframe above Shaft VII. After the climb, there's some time to enjoy the view and take photos. Afterwards, the group will return to the starting point.

Please note the following when climbing the winding tower:

  • Climbing is not permitted for children under 12 years
  • Please wear sturdy shoes (no heels, flip-flops, etc.) and clothing appropriate for the weather
