On this evening hike, learn all sorts of interesting facts about the sundial and the mysterious horizon observatory. Once you reach the summit and the astronomical plateaus, not only are the stars (almost) within reach, but the view of the Ruhr metropolis also creates a unique atmosphere. The winter solstice, the phases of the moon, and timekeeping are also explained here on the slag heap.
Note: You are welcome to bring your own flashlights. Currently, access to the interior (forum) of the Horizon Observatory on the Hoheward spoil tip is unfortunately not possible. Shortly after the observatory's opening, a weld cracked at the junction of the two arches. Therefore, the observatory's interior is currently closed to visitors and can only be viewed from the edge of the forum, not as an observation instrument.
