The Hoheward slag heap, with its 45-meter-high steel arches, regularly appears as a giant on the horizon of the Ruhr metropolis. With a drop of over 150 meters, some may find it insurmountable. You'll effortlessly conquer the summit in a minibus, allowing you to fully immerse yourself in horizon astronomy and the breathtaking view of the Ruhr metropolis. Experienced tour guides will not only explain how the two structures work, but will also introduce you to the secrets of ancient technologies.
Please note that the bus must park just below the sundial. A short walk is unavoidable and explicitly part of the tour.
Please note: Access to the interior (forum) of the Horizon Observatory on the Hoheward spoil tip is currently not possible. Shortly after the observatory's opening, a weld cracked at the junction of the two arches. Therefore, the observatory's interior is currently closed to visitors and can only be viewed from the edge of the forum, not as an observation instrument.
