Open Data Finder

Access high-quality, standardized tourism data from the Ruhr Metropolis with the Open Data Finder.

The data quality and usability of the data in the Ruhr Metropolis are greatly increased through central control and uniform quality criteria. Through direct data retrieval via the Open Data Finder, the DestinationHub.Ruhr enables new, innovative service providers to fill their products directly with high-quality tourism data.

For further information and inquiries, please contact your Contact persons at Ruhr Tourismus GmbH.

Step 1:
In the first step, we ask you to provide your contact details and agree to our terms of use and data protection declaration.

Step 2:
In the next step you have to select in which area you want to retrieve the touristic data. To do this, you can select either the radius or area search.

Proximity search:
Enter an address or a location in the search field. The radius around the selected point can be freely defined using the “Content Limitation” slider. If you are interested in data from the entire Ruhr Metropolis, you can alternatively click the checkbox "Retrieve data sets from the entire Ruhr Metropolis".

Area search:
First select one of the four area types: districts, nature parks / national parks, travel areas or marketing regions. In the following step you can select individual areas accordingly. If you decide on the area type "Counties", after selecting the district / urban district, you have the additional option of selecting one or more municipalities within the district. The corresponding number of data records to be retrieved is displayed as a result within the map view.

Step 3:
You can then opt for two types of direct data retrieval: destination.pages (widgets) for the website and destination.meta (API access) for the content.

We describe the use of the widget as a "technically simpler variant". Here, destination.pages is used as a ready-to-use output module. This is inserted into your own website like a widget via a code snippet. We recommend the widget solution for tourism service providers, for example accommodation providers or smaller tourism organizations. It is therefore possible to easily integrate tourist content into existing websites and offer its visitors added value.

API access is technically more complex, but offers more customization, especially for larger companies and organizations. The destination.meta is used to retrieve the data via API access / interface. The data is output via self-built modules.

Step 4:
Depending on the type of data retrieval you chose in step 3, you can now retrieve the relevant data.

By selecting the widget solution, you have the option of integrating the corresponding Javascript code or the URL for this page into your website.
