Music fans can listen to excellent guitar music in various events and drift off on a musical journey. The start of the festival is in the Bleckkirche - the church of cultures in Gelsenkirchen - where Ensemble nu:n kicks off the musical journey with a combination of medieval music with modern sounds. The "Alte Musik” series, which started in 2014, will be continued with a special accent.
On 30 September the Gitarrenfestival-Ruhr continues with a new musical highlight: The Guitar Night takes place at Haus Fuhr in Essen-Werden for the first time. This is where international stars of the future meet the Champions League of the German guitar scene - and Franco Maigue kicks off the night of music with a top-drawer programme of classic and Filipino guitar literature. Falk Zenker is also involved and provides the audience with an innovative mixture of virtuoso guitar playing with Spanish flair. Last but not least, half of the festival organisers will also take the opportunity to appear on the stage: Thomas Hanz rounds off the Guitar Night together with the Essener Barocksolisten.
On 1 October a new shooting star by the name of Sönke Meinen comes to the Bürgermeisterhaus in Essen, and on the following day, music fans can hear a matinee concert at Kloster Saarn in Mülheim at 11am which has gradually, over the course of the years, become a “must-hear” instead of being just an insider tip. Those who want to experience a leading French guitar virtuoso live should note 2 October at Gitarrenfestival Ruhr in the diary as Judicael Perroy, known as a musical prodigy, demonstrates his talent in the Bürgermeisterhaus. The end of the festival will be on 3 October with the Niehusmann Gitarrenduo. Judith and Volker Niehusmann take on an interesting series of pieces from early Renaissance tunes for the lute to major guitar classics and Spanish romanticism to 20th century music.
