Archaeological Park Xanten

The Archeological Park Xanten is one of the highlights of your short trip to the Ruhr: The Open Air Museum show the life of the ancient Romans by the Rhine.

Have you always wanted to wander through a Roman settlement with the whole family, without having to leave the Ruhr Area? The LVR Archeological Park in Xanten makes it possible. In the extensive green landscape of the park, the remains of the Colonia Ulpia Traiana invite you to a relaxing outing in the ancient world.

Imposing reconstructions of buildings such as the amphitheatre and the harbour temple give an impression of everyday life in the Roman provinces. In the world of Roman games, visitors large and small can dive into the playhouse and the wooden adventure playground. And afterwards, you can satisfy your hunger in the Roman restaurant, where dishes are prepared according to ancient recipes.

Xanten

Xanten is a lovely small town on the Lower Rhine. During the summer the streets and lanes are crowded with numerous aficionados. Despite this everybody carries on the good old-fashioned way and the general speed is slow and gentle. Promenaders and cyclists love to go on solitary trips into the idyllic landscape of riverside meadows or around the Xanten North and South Lake. The 110 hectares of water provide everything sunbathers, aquatic athletes and swimmers are looking for.
The ideal place to take time out. MORE
