Schwerte
Discover Schwerte, the old Hanseatic city right in the heart of North Rhine-Westphalia. Lying in the South-east of the Ruhr Area awaits Schwerte with an attractive landscape in the Ruhr valley. The town is a popular excursion destination for a cycling holiday, in particular for a tour on the Ruhr Valley Cycle Route.
The River Ruhr - the namesake of the region - flows through the town for nearly twelve kilometres. Along its green banks hikers and cyclists experience the wonderful nature on the river.
Schwerte is a major stage point on the Ruhr Valley Cycle Route, which over its 230 kilometres leads from Winterberg to Duisburg. If you wish to enjoy the wonderful Ruhr floodplains from the river, you should take the opportunity to discover the Ruhr by canoe with the Lenne-Ruhr-Canoe Tour in Schwerte.
Schwerte's lovely historic old town invites you for an unhurried stroll. With its narrow lanes and the lovingly maintained half-timbered houses and the old mill it offers visitors lasting impressions and some fantastic photo settings.
Numerous cultural events attract visitors from near and far to Schwerte. The highlight is the annual Welttheater der Straße (World Street Theatre Festival), which lures more than 10,000 people to Schwerte and wows everyone.
