Rheinberg

The town of Rheinberg lies in the West of the Ruhr Area and is part of the district of Wesel. The centre of Rheinberg is surrounded by a drained moat, which was built in the 14th century to defend the town. Consequently Rheinberg is an exciting excursion destination in the Ruhr Area for visitors who are interested in history.

It is worth exploring the historical monuments of Rheinberg. For example the Zollturm (Toll tower), also called Pulverturm (gunpowder tower) is a sight worth seeing. At the end of the 13th century, the tower was built together with the Kölnische Landesburg (Cologne state castle) and, as a result of its location directly on the River Rhine, served to collect tolls from merchant vessels.

Another highlight of the town is the TerraZoo, where visitors can see more than 80 different species of reptiles, snakes, lizards and spiders.
