The town of Recklinghausen is one of the most diverse city destinations in the Ruhr Area and apart from industrial monuments and green outdoor expanses also offers top-class culture. As a result visitors to Recklinghausen experience a short break between the Middle Ages and the modern age that is rich in variety.

 

One of the most significant events in the Ruhr Area is the Ruhrfestspiele (Ruhr festival) of Recklinghausen, which attracts theatre fans to the city in May and June every year.

The Museum Umspannwerk (Electricity Museum) in Recklinghausen recounts the history of technology and is an attraction on the Route of Industrial Heritage.

There is even more culture with the New Philharmonic Orchestra of Westphalia, in the Ikonen-Museum (Museum of Icons) and in the art gallery.
