Bottrop Grandiose

During the year of the Capital of Culture Ruhr .2010 Bottrop also has something to offer its visitors. A particular highlight is the new performance of the Verdi opera “AIDA“. The event will take place during the Local Heroes Week from 13/06 - 19/06/10 in the BergArena Halde Haniel. You will have not yet experienced this tragic love story as in this production. The classic
setting of the opera is Egypt at the time of pharaohs. The title figure Aida is a Nubian princess, who was carried off to Egypt as a hostage. The Egyptian military leader Radames must decide between his love for Aida and his loyalty to the pharaoh and the marriage to Amneris, the pharaoh’s daughter. One can guess what the story is about: love – war – intrigue – betrayal – death – grief – revenge, and without a happy ending. And all that against the magnificent backdrop of the BergArena Halde Haniel, perhaps the region’s most interesting theatre.
