Working-class housing estate Eisenheim

Bild: Working-class housing estate Eisenheim
The Eisenheim neighbourhood in Oberhausen completes your city break through the industrial heritage of the Ruhr metropolis. This workers' colony of Eisenheim is over 150 years old, and is the oldest of its type from the industrialisation period in the Ruhr Area.
It was built by what later became the "Gutehoffnungshütte" (Ironworks of Good Hope) in 1846, to provide accommodation for its workers. In what was once the wash house (Berliner Straße 10a), the Rhine Industry Museum (RIM) documents the history of the former work, life and living conditions of the neighbourhood's inhabitants.
The museum also organises special exhibitions, lectures, museum discussions, industrial heritage excursions and events such as concerts, film evenings, readings, open days, and practical demonstrations in the Eisenheim settlement.
