Neue Mitte Oberhausen

The town of Oberhausen is the centre of the Spectacular & Popular RUHR discovery area and lies in the north-western Ruhr Area. It is regarded as a prime example of the successful economic restructuring of the region and, with Oberhausen's CentrO, is one of the most visited excursion destinations in the Ruhr Area.

The Neue Mitte town quarter offers a unique experience with Europe's largest shopping and leisure centre CentrO Oberhausen, the SEA LIFE Aquarium, a Model Train World, a marina for sports boats, event and concert halls such as the König-Pilsener ARENA and plenty of restaurants, bars and pubs.

Industrial Heritage in Oberhausen

On the same site there is also the town's landmark, the Gasometer Oberhausen. At 117.5 metres tall the former gas store is regarded as the roof of the Ruhr Area and is also the highest exhibition hall in Europe. As a main landmark on the Route of Industrial Heritage the Gasometer is also one of the major sights in the Ruhr Area.

Industrial heritage plays a particularly important role in Oberhausen. With the Rheinisches Industriemuseum Oberhausen (Rhenish Industrial Museum Oberhausen), St. Antony Hütte (St. Antony Ironworks) and Eisenheim's workers' housing quarter there are even more compelling reasons for a city trip to Oberhausen. Oberhausen palace, with the Ludwig Gallery, provides cultural highlights with temporary exhibitions.
