Neukirchen-Vluyn, situated to the west of the Rhine River in the Ruhr Area, offers a variety of recreational activities and a scenic landscape close to the cities of the Metropolis Ruhr. As a result the town is becoming an attractive excursion destination and an alternative to a city trip.

Historic mills from the 18th and 19th centuries, Bloemersheim moated castle, old industrial monuments and mining colonies depict the history between agriculture and mining in Neukirchen-Vluyn. You can get a good overview on a historic guided town tour or in Neukirchen-Vluyn's Ortsgeschichtliches Museum (Local History Museum). The museum is located in the Hall of culture, in which cabaret and music are regularly performed. The classical palace courtyard concerts have a permanent spot as major events in the town's calendar of events.
