Theater an der Ruhr
The Ruhr Theatre in Mülheim is one of the most respected of the 120 theatres in the Ruhr Area. The productions are amongst the best to be seen anywhere on stage in Germany, and events here are delicacies for visitors on city breaks in the Ruhr metropolis.
The theatre was founded by the Milanese director Dr Roberto Ciulli, who wanted to turn a new concept of municipal theatre into a reality. In 1980 the theatre moved into the unused spa hall of the Raffelberg saltwater baths.
The theatre predominantly came to fame, however, as a result of its multinational, cosmopolitan cultural work. The ensemble have appeared at numerous festivals in Europe and South America, and became the first Western theatre group to be invited to Iran. With its youth theatre, it is also involved in youth work.
