Schloss Broich
Broich Castle is the oldest structural monument in the town of Mülheim an der Ruhr. Today it contains a museum, a beer garden and a restaurant, and hosts popular events such as Christmas markets and concerts.
The stronghold dates back to 883/884, making it the oldest Carolingian fortress north of the Alps. It was expanded in later centuries to become a castle. The museum of the castle houses an exhibition by the Mülheim History Society, including amongst other things a model of Mülheim in the age of Napoleon.
Particularly popular events include the Christmas market that is held every year in Broich Castle, but also jazz concerts, jousting festivals, and events such as the medieval market.
