The Bismarck Tower was built of Ruhr sandstone, and high up on top of the Kahlenberg hill it gives an impressive view over the Saarn-Mendener floodplains.

On 1 April 1909 the tower was inaugurated , on the birthday of Bismarck, and could be climbed for a fee. It has been open regularly for visitors since 1998.
