Mülheim an der Ruhr
Mülheim an der Ruhr, the only city whose centre lies directly on the River Ruhr, bears the name of the river with pride as part of the name of the town. Thus, it is no surprise that for visitors the river is also the focus of a short break in Mülheim an der Ruhr.
In addition the town is a major stop on the Ruhr Valley Cycle Route and therefore very popular with cyclists.
With Mülheim's white fleet you can take wonderful boat trips from Mülheim's Wasserbahnhof (Water station) upstream of the Ruhr to Kettwig. The "Haus Ruhr Natur" nature museum provides insights into the flora and fauna on and in the River Ruhr. Along with the Ruhr Valley Cycle Route there are also other attractive cycle paths, making cycling holidays in Mülheim an der Ruhr extremely popular.
The town can be rediscovered from an entirely new perspective along the themed routes of the "Ruhrperlen" (Ruhr Pearls), which link hiking and cycling with multimedia information and play equipment.
Cultural highlights which at the same time are major sites on the Route of Industrial Heritage are the Camera Obscura with the museum on the early history of film, the Aquarius Wassermuseum (Aquarius Water Museum) and the Leder und Gerber Museum (Leather and Tanning Museum).
