Gelsenkirchen/Berlin – From "Alaska" to "Africa" in one day – ZOOM Erlebniswelt makes this adventure possible in the middle of the Ruhr area for the first time. More than three million visitors have taken an exciting expedition into distant worlds since the opening of the first Erlebniswelt. The completion of the third Erlebniswelt, Asia, completes the groundbreaking concept. Then it will be possible: a journey across the world in one day – in the heart of North-Rhine Westphalia. In just a few years the "zoo of the future" has arisen in the middle of the Ruhr area, which makes it possible to meet animals without visible barriers and dive into distant worlds. ZOOM Erleb-niswelt will introduce itself to tourism professionals and the public as one of the representatives of the European Capital of Culture RUHR.2010 at the ITB trade fair from 11 to 15 March 2009 in Berlin (hall 8.2, booth 101). ZOOM Erlebniswelt has established itself as a destination for daytrips since 2005, and drew a great deal of attention nationally last year. Millions of viewers followed the "wild" events surround-ing the 650 residents of the Erlebniswelt in Gelsenkirchen on TV – in series on both VOX and ZDF. Some of the more than 100 animals born last year made waves nationally. The newest heavyweight entry into Erlebniswelt Alaska quickly became the public’s favourite: Polar Bear Bill.

Alaskan Expedition A 1.3 kilometre long adventure path guides the expedition through Alaska, passing tremendous rock formations and a thunderous waterfall. Visitors discover the pioneer era in a ranger station, Sam’s Goldmine and whale cemetery. The largest sea lion facility in Europe offers views of play-ful dives both above and below water. In Alaska Ice Adventure, visitors are taken on a rapid ad-venture through the polar region to the coastal rainforest in a motion-ride simulation.

African Safari The 1.8 kilometre long safari runs through an expansive savannah up to the 2,000 m² large jungle hall. The 20 minute long boot ride offers a unique panorama view of the African lake, passing the hippos and rhinos. At the giraffe house, which is up to nine metres tall, visitors can look into the eyes of the long-necked hoofed animals.

Exclusive 90 minute ranger tours through the ZOOM Erlebniswelt Alaska and Africa and special events, such as expeditions at dusk or Halloween expand ZOOM Erlebniswelt’s offerings for tourists.
