Lünen - an active city next to the Lippe river
The town of Lünen, right at the heart of North Rhine-Westphalia, is situated at the most southerly bend of the Lippe River and offers a variety of recreational activities and outstanding natural experiences. Cycle tourism especially plays a major role and makes Lünen an attractive excursion destination.
Lünen provides a delightful contrast between nature and industrial heritage with plenty of charm. The most photographed item and symbol of economic restructuring is the Colani UFO designed by industrial designer Professor Luigi Colani on the shaft framework of the Minister Achenbach pit, today the site of Lünen's centre of technology and innovation centre - LünTec.
Water tourism in Lünen
Through the centre of the town flows the River Lippe, which itself offers a special water experience in the heart of the city. As a result Lünen is becoming one of the centres of Water tourism in the Ruhr Area. A generous flight of steps makes it possible to directly access the Lippe and serves as a landing stage for exciting canoe tours. Another highlight for pleasure crafts is the Prussian harbour offering a perfect rest opportunity for visitors.
