Every football fan who is on a city break in the Ruhr Area wants to see Schalke's famous football stadium: the VELTINS Arena is the most modern football stadium in Europe; major concerts, boxing bouts and many other events also take place at the arena.

"You coming to Schalke?" Not the grammar but the answer "no" would cause amazement. For everyone in Gelsenkirchen is proud of its beloved club Schalke 04. And a visit to an exciting football match is as much a part of a weekend break in the Ruhr Area as the curry sausage.

But the VELTINS Arena is more than just a football stadium. As a multifunctional arena it is one of the top event locations in the Ruhr Area. The arena offers a breathtaking setting with fantastic technical possibilities. The best examples of this are the Klitschko boxing matches, the biathlon in winter or !SING -  DAY OF SONG as a major Capital of Culture event. At the touch of a button the football stadium becomes an event location with virtually unlimited possibilities. It has a retractable roof, a turf which slides out ... new dimensions across the board.

The Schalke Museum, which is right in the stadium (Block 12), tells the exciting history of the club and the construction of the stadium. Together with a stadium tour the VELTINS Arena has become a tourist attraction in the Ruhr Area and attracts group trips and bus tours to Gelsenkirchen in particular.
